UP 6900 |
Description: |
Built around 1970, these locomotives were nicknamed "Centennial" because they first started arriving on the 100th anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. These locomotives were the largest diesels in the world, and UP made good use of them, putting 2 million miles on the average ones. UP 6900 |
Description: |
Fast at accelerating, and reliable as far as maintenance went during the decade that they served, these engines were ultimately retired because Union Pacific stopped needing them, due to improvements in other designs, horsepower owed UP by other railroads, and a downturn in rail traffic. 14 still exist-this one came to Kenefick Park in 2008. |
